We know that there are many voices, perspectives and experiences between us and we recognize that there are some differing responses to the 2024 election results.
However, we have to give voice to and recognize that many of us are grieving, afraid, angry, feeling betrayed and more based not only on the presidential election but also Senate, House and ballot votes.
We know that some of you may not have voted or voted third party for any number of reasons ranging from historical devaluation and lack of belief in the process, ethical conflicts with both parties related to what’s happening in Palestine and/or other current issues, not having access to be able to vote or needing to focus so much on surviving this world that it just wasn’t possible to also focus on the election. We also know that some of you may approve of the results.
Right now, whether you voted or not, we are seeking to make space for the voices of people who are in that place of grief, anxiety and needing to process. We especially are thinking of those of you who stand to be most negatively impacted or made less safe by the political policies and emboldened hate coming our way.
This includes (but is not limited to) many unhoused people and others living in poverty, trans and gender expansive communities, people who have recently come to this country (both undocumented and otherwise), Black and Brown communities, religious minorities and women and anyone else directly impacted by reproductive freedoms, misogyny, transmisogyny and/or misogynoir.
We also know – when a similar party make-up was in power a handful of years ago – that there were significant negative impacts within disabled communities and for individuals invested in eliminating psychiatric force, supporting peer support and the creation of alternatives to conventional clinical models of support. This included a significant, disease-focused shift at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
We do not support lashing out at or attacking people with different perspectives and, overall, our spaces will continue to be open to people with differing views provided they are willing to take part in upholding our values. However, post-election drop-in support spaces and other resources will continue to be focused on those who are experiencing harm as a result of the election outcomes.
All are welcome regardless of where you are based geographically, provided you are willing to connect and exist within our stated values and the main purpose of the space. Again, the main purpose is to make space for the voices of people who are in that place of grief, anxiety and needing to process and/or be in connection with others. We especially are thinking of those of you who stand to be most negatively impacted or made less safe by the political policies coming our way.
We now have a ‘Post-Election Support’ page on our website that includes:
- Post-election support spaces (including spaces for Black and BIPOC communities and other affinity groups) offered by Wildflower
- Post-election supports and resources offered by other groups
- Access to free Zoom space for your own organizing efforts
YOU CAN FIND THE NEW POST-ELECTION SUPPORTS PAGE BY CLICKING HERE!
Additionally, you are welcome to e-mail us at info@wildfloweralliance.org if you have ideas of what other support space we could or should attempt to create as we move through this time together.
